Amani Semaan
Festival Director
Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Amani studied Public Relations & Advertising and Information & Communication. After receiving her Master’s degree from Saint Joseph University (USJ), she has worked in various cultural fields, from cinema to dance and for the past 4 years she has worked in the music industry.
Amani’s career in music took off in 2011 when she began working as Oumeima el-Khalil’s manager and tour manager. In 2014-15, she managed the bands Alif, and Khyam Allami, as well as Egyptian alternative musician Maurice Louca.
In 2012, Amani co-founded Beirut & Beyond, a non-profit organization that aims to develop a platform for the independent music scene and create opportunities for emerging musicians in the MENA region. Amani has also worked as line producer for entertainment music shows, such as MBC’s The Voice and The Voice Kids.
Currently, she is the festival director of Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival, and is working as an artist manager for musicians in the Arab World.
Geoliane Arab
Strategy & Development
Selected by Sciences Po Paris for WOMED 2015 (Women of the Mediterranean: Future generation of leaders), Geoliane studied law alongside theatre and performing arts at the Lebanese University and was trained in contemporary dance. She has worked as a performer, exterior eye and assistant director with local and international artists, between 2006 and 2012. She has collaborated with several international organisations on mapping the Lebanese cultural scene and identifying valuable actors and projects, thus creating opportunities for international exchange and development. She has been jury member, moderator and speaker at different international forums. She co-directed Spring Festival 2016 (LB) and organised the IETM Satellite meeting in Beirut on freedom of expression among others. Formerly cooperation manager for the Middle East at Moussem (BE), Geoliane curates and produces professional programs of international festivals (Us, the moon & the Neighbours Festival 2015 (LB), Exodos Festival 2017 (SI), Shubbak Festival 2017 (UK)). She is currently strategy and development manager at Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival (LB) and managing director at Hammana Artist House (LB). Geoliane is also member of the board of directors of IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts (BE)) and the advisory committee of Pro Helvetia Cairo.
Wael Koudaih
Artistic Advisor
Wael Koudaih was born in Nabatieh, Lebanon in 1979. Since 2002, he goes by the pseudonym “Rayess Bek”. A major Hip Hop and urban music creator and performer in the Arabic speaking world, Wael is an author, composer, and interpreter, who has released seven albums and performed in over 400 concerts worldwide.
In 2014 Wael Koudaih co-directed with Nancy Naous (choreographer) The Third Circle, an installation and a performance based on interviews made in Lebanon with several Muslim scholars, religious leaders and experts in Islamic law.
In 2012, Wael produced Goodbye Schlöndorff, an audio-visual performance that combines intimate messages recorded on cassettes and sent to loved ones in times of war, with short sequences from the film Circle of Deceit and its making-of, directed by Volker Schlöndorff.
